What makes the perfect dining table for your home?

Whether for a quick coffee in the morning, a big Sunday dinner with the family or a colourful afternoon of arts and crafts with the children - hardly any other piece of furniture is used in as many ways as the dining table. It is both a meeting place and the centre of attention. This is where people laugh, talk, play, work - and live. It is not without reason that the table is one of the central elements of every living concept.

You can recognise a perfect table not only by its high-quality materials or harmonious design, but above all by the fact that it fits in with its owner's life. Because the dining table is more than just a surface with four legs - it is a place for rituals, for celebrations, for conversations. And sometimes simply for a quiet moment with a cup of coffee.

That's why a dining table should always offer enough space - for every chair that goes with it and for every situation that everyday life brings with it. Whether it's for a family breakfast, a festive meal or a craft evening: the right table makes being together special.

If you are looking for a new table, you should pay attention to more than just dimensions and materials. It is important that the table matches the size of the room and the style of the dining area. In our range you will find a large selection of dining tables - from classic to modern, from compact to extendable. This turns a piece of furniture into a favourite place.

Because a dining table is not just any piece of furniture. It is the place where life takes place - day after day.

What shapes of dining tables are there and for which room are they suitable?

Round, square, oval or rectangular – dining tables come in many shapes. Which one suits your home best depends not only on your personal style, but also on the layout of the room. Each table shape has its own advantages – both functional and design-wise

  • Round dining tables promote socialising: everyone sits on an equal footing, with no “head ends” – perfect for breakfast with the family or dinner in a small group. They look especially nice when placed freely in the room, for example in open-plan kitchens or square-shaped rooms. And a big advantage: No sharp corners to bump into.
  • Rectangular tables provide structure: they can be easily integrated into long rooms, placed against walls or positioned lengthways – ideal where greater freedom of movement is desired. This classic shape offers plenty of space for larger groups and can be flexibly combined with the right seating.
  • Oval tables combine the openness of a round table with the straight lines of rectangular models. They look soft, elegant and set stylish accents – an ideal choice for anyone who wants the best of both worlds.

How do you find the right size for your dining table?

A good dining table is not just visually appealing – it is thoughtfully designed and offers enough room for everyone who uses it every day. Whether there are two, four, or guests: with a few simple rules of thumb, you will quickly find the right format for your home.

  • Per person you should allow around 60 cm in width – this ensures a comfortable distance between seats.
  • In terms of depth, about 40 cm is sufficient for plates, glasses and cutlery to fit comfortably.
  • If you prefer more generosity, you can calculate up to 80 cm per place setting – especially pleasant for everyday use or lengthy meals.

The space around the table is also crucial: allow at least 80 to 100 cm clearance to the wall or adjacent furniture. This makes it easy to push chairs back and keeps the dining area easily accessible – even when the table is free-standing. Tip: Be mindful of special situations – such as family celebrations, guests or growing households. Particularly handy are extendable dining tables which remain compact for everyday use yet can be expanded effortlessly when required.

Which types of wood are best suited for dining tables?

A wooden dining table is more than just a piece of furniture – it brings a touch of nature and warmth into your home. Unsurprisingly, wood tables are especially popular among our customers: the lively grain, the pleasant touch and the authentic character make them true favourites.

Oak is one of the most popular types of wood. It is not only extremely robust, but also impresses with its timeless appeal. An oak dining table looks classic, elegant – and blends effortlessly into both modern and traditional living spaces.

If you prefer darker tones, walnut is a stylish alternative. The deep brown wood brings warmth and depth to the space. Particularly striking: models with natural live edges that become a real eye-catcher thanks to their organic lines.

Many of our dining tables are made of solid wood – durable, stable and full of character. The surfaces vary depending on the model: oiled, waxed, lacquered or untreated – each finish has its own character and care requirements.

If you want less effort when cleaning, go for a table with a sealed surface. For everyone else, we are happy to offer tips on proper care – so that your wooden table loses none of its beauty, even after many years.

How do you find the right dining table to buy online?

Buying a dining table online is convenient, but not always easy. After all, a table is more than just a piece of furniture – it has to suit the room, your style and your lifestyle. This makes it all the more important to pay attention to the right details when buying online.

1. Materials, functions and workmanship at a glance
Whether folding table, extendable model or solid wood dining table – look for a precise description of the tabletop, frame and mechanism. Many of our models feature clever extension functions, such as add-on leaves or butterfly extensions. This makes your table suitable for everyday use and lets it simply grow with you when needed.

2. Choice of material: Character and care requirements
An oak table brings warmth and timelessness to any space, while combinations of wood and metal look modern and urban. Glass tops provide lightness – ideal for smaller spaces. For those who want something especially durable, choose solid wood. The same applies: each finish – whether oiled, lacquered or untreated – has its own care requirements.

3. Table and chairs as a harmonious ensemble
If you are planning chairs at the same time, check dimensions and seat height. It is important that the chairs fit comfortably under the table. This leaves enough room all the way round – not just for sitting, but also for easy movement in daily life.

4. Personal advice – even online
Of course you will find a wide selection of dining tables online. But if you would like more experience: Visit our main store in Zurich or the branch in Regensdorf. On site you can test out chairs, feel the materials and receive comprehensive advice.
