High-quality mattresses for a restful sleep
Welcome to the realm of beautiful dreams. The body does a lot of work overnight. While we sleep, it repairs damaged cells, strengthens the immune system, recovers from the day's activities and ensures that the heart and circulation are fit for the next day. We spend around a third of our entire life in bed. Our body needs seven to nine hours of sleep to function properly. In order for it to regenerate optimally, correct lying and excellent comfort are extremely important. During the day, the spine is subjected to a lot of strain, which causes the intervertebral discs to lose fluid. Choosing the right mattress is therefore important for optimum relief and all-round healthy sleep.
However, finding the right mattress is usually not that easy. What do you need to look out for when buying a mattress? Which firmness level, which size and which type of mattress is right for your body? Preferred sleeping positions play just as much a role as body size, body weight, build, pressure sensitivity, sweating behaviour or allergies. We give you an overview of the different models, materials and factors that play an important role in ensuring a good night's sleep.

Foam mattress
Foam mattresses are the right choice for anyone who tends to sleep restlessly at night and suffers from joint, shoulder or back pain during the day. This is because the first-class point elasticity gives way in the right places and offers ideal support in other areas. Foam mattresses are also a wonderful sleeping surface for allergy sufferers, as their open-pored and irregular foam structure ensures sufficient ventilation and therefore excellent hygiene. This makes it easier to achieve a dry sleeping environment. Another advantage of these mattresses is that they are hardly susceptible to infestation by mites, fungi and bacteria. People who get cold easily will also be happy with a foam mattress. The thermal insulation stores the body's own heat and only releases it slowly to the outside world. This type of mattress also impresses with its excellent adaptability to the contours of the body and the slatted frame, making it wonderfully comfortable to sleep on.
Spring mattress
An absolute classic is the spring mattress, which continues to enjoy great popularity. As the name suggests, the core of the mattress consists of many springs. These are shaped differently depending on the type and are sewn into a series of fabric pockets. The steel springs in the pocket spring core mattress, for example, are incorporated into fabric pockets. Bonell spring core mattresses have a smaller number of springs and the spring diameter is also slightly smaller. As a result, the mattress is somewhat softer. With their different point elasticities, the stable springs support the body reliably and permanently. The cavities between the springs also guarantee excellent breathability, making the spring mattress a perfect choice for people who perspire heavily.
Box spring mattress
A box spring mattress offers a pleasant lying comfort. The reason for this is the high level of support and the ergonomically soft lying comfort that the mattress offers. The mattress usually has a spring core made of pocket springs and a height of up to 30 cm. In the luxury version, the mattress can also be made of cold foam. While a box spring mattress in combination with a box spring bed relies on a sprung base instead of a slatted frame, a box spring mattress can also simply be placed on the usual bed. This allows you to enjoy the benefits of a box spring bed without being tied to one bed model.
Latex mattress
With latex mattresses, a distinction is made between mattresses made of synthetically produced latex and natural latex mattresses, whose latex is obtained from the sap of the rubber tree. Whether synthetic latex or natural latex, a latex mattress offers the sleeper high point elasticity, first-class adaptation to the body contours, breathability and impressive antibacterial properties. Another advantage of latex mattresses is their high density. Due to the high material density, the latex mattress is very dimensionally stable so that it does not wear out quickly. However, it is not suitable for people who perspire heavily, as this type of mattress repels moisture, making it easier for bed linen and nightwear to become damp.
The right mattress size
Every person is different. That's why you are the measure of all things. It is therefore not necessarily advisable to buy the same size mattress as a couple. While your partner sleeps wonderfully on it, the mattress may be a nightmare for you. We stock different sizes of mattresses.

The right firmness level
When choosing a new mattress, you always have to choose the right firmness level (H). It is important that the mattress is neither too soft nor too hard so that the spine is supported orthopaedically correctly when lying down. Everyone has a different lying preference. While some people like to sleep on a soft mattress, others prefer a firmer model. There are five firmness levels. Here is an overview:
Firmness level H1 = very soft, for people weighing up to approx. 60 kg
Firmness grade H2 = soft to medium firm, for people weighing between approx. 60 and 80 kg
Firmness grade H3 = medium firm, for people weighing up to approx. 100 kg
Firmness grade H4 = hard, for people weighing between approx. 100 and 130 kg
Firmness grade H5 = very firm, for people weighing over 130 kg
Even more cosiness with a topper
If you are looking for extra comfort, you should combine the mattress with a topper. A mattress topper is a thin layer that is placed on top of the mattress or mattresses. This is because the low height of the mattress topper (around four to nine cm) makes the bed even more comfortable without compromising the properties of the mattress. The structure of a topper is very similar to that of a mattress. The topper has a core and a cover. There are many different materials that can be used for the individual components. At Schubiger you will find a wide selection of different mattress toppers.
